LAKESIDE WILL
NOT CLOSE!
Lakeside Nursing

The recommendations of the
Commission on Health Care Facilities in the Twenty-First Century have finally
been announced to the public, health care providers and facility owners
included. Based in some respects,
on less than current information related to Lakeside, the Commission has recommended “closure” for the
facility.
The Commission’s recommendations
come at a time when Lakeside has made
considerable progress in the quality of care delivered to our residents and in
our financial position. Of
significance is that the Commission’s recommendations overlap Lakeside’s submission of a ‘right-sizing” application
which is currently under consideration by the New York State Department of
Health. Working with the Department
of Health,
Lakeside is confident that this
collaboration will ultimately avoid the closure recommendation.
Of significance is the
Commission’s recommendations regarding the addition of Adult Day Health Care
Program (ADHCP) slots, Assisted Living Program (ALP) beds and other
non-institutional programs and services within Tompkins County is consistent
with the tenets of Lakeside’s application.
Lakeside, working within the current
Department of Health legislation, originally submitted the application
suggesting the decertification of 80 beds, which would reduce the nursing home
capacity from 260 to 200 beds, and included the addition of Adult Day Health
Care Program slots and Assisted Living Program beds.
The approval of
Lakeside’s right-sizing application will ultimately meet
the balances sought in the Commission’s recommendations.
Lakeside is unequivocally committed
to the Commission’s recommendations through the approval of our right-sizing
application and continuing to provide and expand services to our residents and
our community.
